  • Beatrice van Bastelaer has a master degree in Economics from the University of Namur (Belgium).
  • Her master thesis was devoted to the role of the EDIFACT standard in EDI diffusion.
Recent research
  • Since 1992, she is working at CITA (Cellule Interfacultaire de Technology Assessment) at the University of Namur.
  • CITA is a research unit specialised in the assessment of information and communication technologies.
  • CITA, as a multidisplinary team, involves researchers from different disciplines: sociology, economy, computer science, …
  • Beatrice van Bastelaer participates in the TEDIS program of the European Commission on the social and economic impacts of EDI.
  • She also participated in another European research on the Social learning/shaping of Multimedia (SLIM) with a consortium of European universities.
  • In 1995-1996, she has organised four seminars devoted to the development of Information Highways in Belgium.
  • She is interested in the impacts of Information Highways on work and employment, in the analyses of national policies concerning Information Highways and Multimedia and in the study on the phenomenon of digital cities.
  • She has published widely in the field and has participated to different conferences on the field.
  • CITA is part of another COST program, COST A 14 Government and Democracy in the Information Age and more precisely of the workgroup 3 (ICT and Public Administration - One Stop Government).
