- The meeting in Beaugency officialy closed COST269. The final report was prepared, together with a proposal for a New Action.
PAST NEWS
- The COST 269 conference "The good, the bad and the irrelevant: the user and the future of ICTs" was held in Helsinki (Finland) from 3 to 5 September 2003.
150 people attended from all over the world, more than 80 papers presented: these are the numbers of a big success event.
- The Management Committee meeting in Montegrotto was intense and full of enthusiasm. The participation of students and guests from TILab and the University of Padova generated interesting presentations and discussions.
- The "Capabilities" workgroup presented their final report and announced the formation of a new workgroup, called "Intelligent living".
- The next Management Committee meeting will be held in Ljubljana (10-12 April 2003).
- We welcome Rosemarie Gilligan as new Management Committee member from Ireland.
- The Management Committee meeting in Leidschendam was a big success. New workgroups were formed (more information coming soon on this website).
- We welcome three new members in the COST 269 group:
Olga Veshinskaya is the head of a group studying ICT with the Institute for Socio-Economic Studies of Population at the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Thurls Erik Johnsen is a Norwegian ethnologist who has been looking at social consequences of mobile phones and youth, how these reaffirm social networks. He has been working with Telenor and last year was part of an Internet consultancy.
Frank Thomas is a social geographer whose PhD was on emergence of German telephone system. His survey design training led to involvement in France Telecoms usage lab. He is now based in Paris.
- The scenario activity has started. The first questionnaire deals with the assessment of relevance levels of variables that influence the evolution of the European Internet scenario up to the year 2005.
